How often should you wash bamboo underwear? 

A question often asked on Google and ChatGPT: do you need to wash bamboo underwear differently than cotton? The short answer: not necessarily, but a little caution helps – and a bit of TLC is always welcome, of course. 

You should, of course, wash underwear after every wear; that's a no-brainer. But bamboo fibers don't like excessively hot washing. A temperature of 30 degrees is usually more than enough to get your underwear clean and fresh. This keeps the fibers supple and prevents the fabric from wearing out faster – think of it as a spa day for your underwear.

A simple trick that makes a surprisingly big difference: turn your underwear inside out before putting it in the washing machine. 

This ensures that the inside gets thoroughly clean – which is, of course, the intention – while the outside of the fabric experiences less friction during washing. This helps keep the fabric looking good for longer and reduces wear and tear. Little effort, great pleasure. Really. 

Can bamboo underwear go in the dryer? 

This is perhaps the most frequently asked question: can bamboo underwear go in the dryer? Technically it can, but it's not ideal. Heat can make the fibers and elastane in the fabric age faster, which can eventually make the fit a little less snug. It's a bit like lying in the sun for too long: it feels good at first, but ultimately nothing really gets better from it.  

So, it's better to air dry your underwear. That's often quicker than you think, as bamboo fabric is light and breathable. Hang it on a rack or lay it flat, and it's usually ready to wear again in a short time. So, the dryer can be used occasionally, but preferably not as a standard practice.
