A Bamboo Basics T-shirt has a total impact of 2.04 kg CO2 eq. An industry standard cotton T-shirt has a total CO2 footprint of 5.32 kg CO2 eq. This is mainly caused by the use of cotton fiber, electricity and bleaching of the fiber. The transport emissions of both T-shirts are 12 grams of CO2, a small share of the total. The Bamboo Basics T-shirt saves 63% on the CO2 footprint compared to the cotton shirt.

On average, a Bamboo Basics T-shirt uses 972 liters of water during production. This consists of rainwater, fresh water and recycled (clean) water. The greatest impact is in the use of organic cotton (28% of the T-shirt). An industry standard cotton T-shirt uses an average of 2700 liters of water. The Bamboo Basics T-shirt saves 64% water compared to the cotton shirt.

A Bamboo Basics T-shirt scores 42.65 Pt on land use. An industry standard cotton T-shirt scores 61.33 Pt. The Bamboo Basics T-shirt saves 30% land, compared to the cotton shirt. When calculating land use, we calculate in Pt. (points). This measures changes in soil quality and the amount of land used to grow the commodity. The lower the outcome, the better the quality of the soil and the fewer hectares of land are needed to grow the raw sizerial.

Bamboo Basics products carry the OEKO-TEX 100 label. STANDARD 100 from OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles that have been tested for harmful substances. If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be sure that every part of this article, i.e. every thread, every button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article is therefore harmless to human health.

Recycling and upcycling in the fashion industry is increasingly on the rise. Just like second-hand and vintage. And we support that 100%. For us as an underwear brand, recycling or offering our products second-hand is a bit more difficult and especially not as hygienic ;). For that reason, Bamboo Basics focuses on 'slow fashion'. Basic styles in non-fashion sensitive colors and of high quality. This way we ensure that customers can use our items for a long time and do not get tired of them quickly.

Bamboo naturally requires no insecticides or pesticides to grow. In contrast, cotton is responsible for as much as 11% of all pesticides and 25% of all insecticides used worldwide each year. A major problem in the cultivation of (especially) cotton is the use of pesticides. Especially in intensive cotton cultivation, pesticides are frequently used to prevent various pests and diseases, all of which have a huge negative impact on the local environment. Bamboo cultivation does not require pesticides to control pests or prevent diseases. This makes a huge difference in terms of impact on people, animals and the environment.

Bamboo Basics invests to become a CO2 neutral brand. We are working to reduce water and CO2 emissions per product. Together with Ecochain, we measure and improve the ecological footprint of all Bamboo Basics to become more aware of the impact and to be transparent to our consumers. We also call this Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Bamboo Basics will compensate the footprint with greening projects. Ecochain works with ecoinvent, the world's leading LCI database. The datasets in ecoinvent cover a wide range of products, services and processes. Ecoinvent is considered the largest, most consistent and most transparent database on the market.

We use Tanboocel. This process ensures that no harmful substances are released into the environment. They use a circular process in which 100% of the substances used are collected and recycled. Tanboocel Bamboo Viscose fibers is a more environmentally friendly alternative to bamboo viscose. Tanboocel is antibacterial, hydrophilic and breathable. By reusing the chemicals, Tanboocel forms a closed-loop process.

To make our product stronger and give it a longer lifespan, we use (28%) organic cotton in a number of our items. In addition to bamboo, cotton is also used in the composition of our boxer shorts and T-shirts. Cotton is very important for the strength and structure of the clothing. The combination of bamboo and cotton ensures that your Bamboo Basics items last longer and do not sag. We manage to limit the use of cotton in our products to a maximum of 28%. The cotton we use is organic cotton, which is more environmentally friendly. Organic cotton is almost the same as conventional cotton, but the difference is in the use of pesticides. Cotton comes from the cotton plant and to ensure that these plants do not become covered with small creatures, the plants are sprayed with chemical pesticides. These substances pollute the soil and are bad for the cotton crop and for the population. The soil is becoming increasingly depleted by the chemicals and the water and air are also becoming polluted. To ensure that the small creatures do not destroy the cotton crops, instead of pesticides, organic fertilizer and vegetable and animal waste are used to fertilize and protect the land. Organic cotton is therefore not only better for the skin, but also better for the earth.

Bamboo uses the soil in which it grows more efficiently. Bamboo grows 30x faster than cotton and the roots remain in the ground, after which the plant continues to grow. This prevents soil erosion and requires fewer m2 of agricultural land. This prevents deforestation and, for example, provides space for growing food. One of the biggest advantages of bamboo is that the plant has a huge yield with minimal effort. In addition, the plant is left standing after harvest to continue growing. This makes the bamboo cultivation process extremely efficient.

The bamboo that Bamboo Basics uses is a different type than that eaten by the panda and does not come from the animal's natural habitat.

Bamboo Basics is a vegan brand. The most important feature of vegan clothing is that no animals or animal sizerials are used during production. In concrete terms, this means that no wool, leather, fur, felt, feathers, silk or suede has been used.
