Bamboo Basics stands for sustainability and socially responsible production. We regularly receive questions about both the environmental and human aspects of our production processes. Logical, because our customers are making increasingly conscious choices. That is why we want to be transparent about everything related to these themes.
Sustainably produced
Bamboo Basics is OEKO-TEX 100 certified. This means that our products do not contain substances harmful to humans and the environment.

To make yarn from bamboo, the process requires 2 types of chemicals. These do not end up in the environment because we use Tanboocel. They use a circular process in which 100% of the chemicals used are collected and recycled.
To make our product stronger and give it a longer lifespan, we partly (28%) use organic cotton.
Bamboo naturally needs enough sun and rainwater to grow. Cotton needs to be irrigated. The production of 1 kilo of cotton requires a total of 10,000 liters of water (source: Better Cotton Initiative).
For comparison: the production of 1 kilo of Bamboo Basics saves more than 7,000 liters of water.
Bamboo naturally requires no insecticides or pesticides to grow. In contrast, cotton is responsible for as much as 11% of all pesticides and 25% of all insecticides used worldwide each year.
Bamboo absorbs 5 times more CO2 than a comparable group of trees, while releasing 35% more oxygen.
The bamboo fiber is biodegradable.
Bamboo uses the soil in which it grows more efficiently. Bamboo grows 30x faster than cotton and the roots remain in the ground, after which the plant continues to grow. This prevents soil erosion and requires fewer m2 of agricultural land. This prevents deforestation and, for example, provides space for growing food.
The bamboo that Bamboo Basics uses is a different type than that eaten by the panda and does not come from the animal's natural habitat.

To safeguard our values and standards, we have drawn up a Code of Conduct. Here we describe, among other things, safety of the working environment, payment of a fair wage, no child labor, freedom of association and supervision of hygiene. You can view the entire Code of Conduct here.
We only work with suppliers who have signed our Code of Conduct.
The bamboo we use in our products comes from China, where it is locally processed into a final product. Bamboo Basics has local offices and employees here who monitor compliance with the Code of Conduct on an almost daily basis.
All our suppliers are BSCI certified. This stands for Business Social Compliance Initiative. This is an initiative of companies committed to better working conditions in the global supply chain.

Independent recognized organizations monitor all processes. We receive an annual audit report from them.
